I noticed I have this strange addiction to checking my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Mostly My Robotnik.com accounts.....So much so that I think it’s a real waste of time. If I were to add up all the time I spend....... it would rack up to 1 hour a day. Anybody else have this dilemma? Is there a support group? :)

It depends on how you look at it, Tomek. It is all a dilemma for sure. I find that facebook for me is a waste of time it terms of building up prospects and brand based relationships. It is a great place for me to stay connected with my friends I have known for years, it is a good place to connect with new people that are willing to friend you back, and it is also a good place to push an important twitter oriented conversation to; content sharing and privacy wise. I feel it will be a losing battle If you stay on facebook for most of your networking time. I love my friends. I sure do not want to push my brand on them. Nor do I want to waste their time just trying to strike up a conversation. Twitter on the other hand should be considered something much different. Twitter is like the “Headline” of your brand if constructed correctly. I suggest you constantly build up a following via Twitter. That goes for every network really. And yes, YouTube should be considered one of these networks. By constantly building up your network, you are building social equity. Your name (or brand) means something when you can direct dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people to a cause, even if it is not yours. If you can send out an RT for someone you know on Twitter, and they get several followers or clicks to their site(s) because of it, that means something to them short term - and from my experience - longtime as well.

As far as time goes, I use to spend 3 hours a day on social networking, and every day at that. I feel, however, that is now an improper tactic. Spending about an hour (maybe 2 if you are really interacting with people) throughout the entire day (10 minutes here, 20 or 30 minutes there) is a good way to keep up while also completing the work of your day.

Is it all worth it? I would have to say yes. As senseless as it seems sometimes and as much as the so called experts (the dinosaurs) say it is not worth it, it is in fact the new way in how we all do business. Once you consider social networking as a piece of your work day, things begin to go in clock work.

Hope this helps my man.
